Uf.. there’s a LOT of bad advice out there about what it takes to succeed as a sleep consultant, and I don’t want you wasting time, energy, or money on things that don’t move your business forward, especially if you’re just starting out. Let’s start with some myths, before I’ll tell you what to focus on instead..
🚫 MYTH #1: “If I get certified, clients will automatically come.”
Oh my, if this was real we’d all be millionaires and families around the world would be sleeping through the night!
Getting certified is great—it gives you credibility. But unfortunately our inbox isn’t magically filling up the moment we complete our training.
The thing is, people don’t hire you just because you’re certified. They hire you because they trust you and know you can help them. And trust is built through visibility and action. If you’re not out there showing up, sharing value, and making offers, clients won’t find you (I’ll come back to this later..).
🚫 MYTH #2: “I have to be on EVERY social media platform to succeed.”
NO. You do NOT need to be on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, threads, AND whatever else they invent next week.
Honestly, trying to be everywhere is a recipe for burnout.. 🙈
Instead, pick one or two platforms that match your strengths. Love talking? Start a podcast. Love writing? Blog or do email marketing. Hate social media? Double down on networking. Do what works for you.
🚫 MYTH #3: “I need a perfect website and logo before I can start.”
I know… playing with your branding is fun (at least I do think so!). And yes having a beautiful website is great. But guess what? Your first clients won’t come from your website. They wont come from your logo.
They will come from conversations. From referrals. From YOU showing up and saying, “Hey, I can help you— let’s talk.”
Stop hiding behind ‘perfecting’ your website and start getting in front of people who need your help (scary right? But trust me, this is so much more effective!).

The thing that holds most Sleep Consultants back isn’t a lack of skill—it’s a lack of action. Let’s fix that..
✅ Step 1: Get Clear on Your Offer → Before you can sell anything, you need to know exactly what you’re offering.
– Who do you help?
– How do you help them?
– What results do they get?
If you can’t explain that in one clear sentence, that’s your first action step.
✅ Step 2: Connect With Real People → You don’t need more social media posts. You need more conversations.
– Talk to people in parenting groups.
– Connect with other professionals who work with parents (doulas, lactation consultants, pediatricians).
Send a message. Make an offer. Start a conversation.
No one can book you if they don’t KNOW you exist.
✅ Step 3: Start Simple, Then Grow → You do NOT need a perfect website, a sales funnel, or 10K followers before you take action.
What do you need? Clients.
Get those first. Learn as you go. THEN build the fancy stuff.
When I started, I didn’t have a website, a huge audience, or a business plan. What I DID have:
✔ A willingness to show up.
✔ A commitment to helping people.
✔ A simple way for people to say “yes” to working with me.
That’s all you need to start.
