Your first year in business is make-or-break. And

Your first year in business is make-or-break. And there’s only one goal that really matters: being profitable. Sadly, most sleep consultants don’t spend time thinking about this... even though we spend most of our waking hours doing this thing called work.

We don’t have a plan for our income or for our ‘number’. For whatever reason, it doesn’t feel natural to talk about money.

But.. this is the biggest reason most sleep consultants fail, they don’t make enough money, so they can either not afford to continue operations, or they quit because it’s just not worth the sacrifices they have to make in their personal life.

So let’s talk about your magic number…

Think of it as setting a weight loss goal. You specify how many pounds you want to shed, then adjust your habits accordingly. You change your eating habits, you move more, so that you can reach your goal. And then you use the scale to track if you’re coming any closer.

It’s the same for your business. If you set a number, you know what to work towards.

1. Start by writing down all your monthly personal and business expenses.
2. Multiply this by 12
3. Add a buffer of 20%.

This number will represent the bare minimum needed to sustain your lifestyle and cover unforeseen expenses.

When you have defined your magic number you want to create a score board, so you can track your progress in the coming 12 months...

✨ You have much less competition.

I mean, if you have a problem with your heart, who would you trust more? A general doctor, a podiatrist or a cardiologist?

Easy, right?

Now the big question is how to choose a niche as a Sleep Consultant. The first thing you want to ask yourself is…

1️⃣ Who do you love working with?

2️⃣ Who do you NOT love working with?

3️⃣ What is something you are freaking good at (or you want to become freaking good at!)?

Go sit and brainstorm on this…

Then…

Once you’ve done that…

Write down 2 words on a piece of paper:

Sleep Consultant

And write them again, and again, and again, but expand them every time with one or two words…

Let me show you my example…

• Graphic Designer

• Graphic designer for entrepreneurs

• Graphic designer for sleep consultant entrepreneurs

• Graphic designer for newly certified sleep consultant entrepreneurs

• Graphic designer for newly certified sleep consultant entrepreneurs who are not so tech-savvy

And keep going until you become a big fish in a small pound!

Then…

1. Become the best at what you do!

2. Talk about it.. a lot!

3. Stay committed to your niche and messaging over the long term.

This way you position yourself as an expert, built trust… and THAT is the key to attract more clients and build a thriving business..

PLEASE stop using photos that are NOT showcasing safe sleep practices! As a Sleep Consultant, you are a role model. You have a crucial role in educating and promoting safe sleep practices. This responsibility extends not only to your content but ESPECIALLY to your visual appearance.

Canva Pro is helping us to remove ANY object that doesn’t represent safe sleep practices!

If you open your account and find a photo you want to use, but it has a loose blanket for example, you can do the following:

1. Click on 'edit photo'
2. Click on 'magic eraser'
3. Remove the unsafe sleep practice
4. Tadaa…

And Canva has more tools like these in their Magic Studio:

> Magic edit - replace one element in the picture for another
> Magic grab - move one part of the picture separately from the background
> Magic expand - fill up the rest of the canvas, when your picture is not filling the screen

Just make sure that whichever picture you use to always choose pictures for your website and Instagram that align with safe sleep practices.

Remember, as sleep consultants, it’s our responsibility to educate and promote safe sleep practices. Let’s lead by example and prioritize the well-being of all those little ones. 💕
